Mediterranean Studies Initiative

As the nexus of three continents—Africa, Asia, and Europe—and an important gateway to the Americas, the Mediterranean basin has been a crucible of human contact, confluence, and conflict since the beginnings of recorded history. Its transcontinental, multi-ethnic, inter-faith past reverberates to the present day.

The Mediterranean Studies Initiative fosters teaching, research, and public programming on the rich and complex history and culture of the Mediterranean region from the ancient world to the present.
